Hydrogen Transport Infrastructure

Transport represented more than 30% of EU final energy consumption, 23.5% of GHG emissions in 2015, and relies on oil for 94% of its energy needs. Decarbonisation of the transport sector is of critical importance if Ireland is to get anywhere close to achieving its short and long-term EU commitments. As can  be seen in the chart below; Ireland’s current pathway* means it will fall well short of its targets and estimated annual non-compliance fines to the EU of €500 million have been proposed.

The European Strategic Energy Technology Plan** along with the Energy Policy Package identified hydrogen and fuel cell technologies amongst the technologies needed to achieve an 80% reduction in CO2 emissions (relative to 1990 levels) by 2050.

When powered by renewably generated hydrogen these cars run as 100% emissions-free vehicles. This technology can ensure that significant inroads can be made towards EU Climate and Energy Package targets.

Scontar Technologies have the knowledge and expertise to help bring about this new paradigm in transport technology and to lead hydrogen transportation projects through from funding to implementation. So, drop us a line and let’s get the conversation started – you may find it’s all much easier than you initially expected.
